THIS YEAR:
Dear friends:
I have sat with my self for several weeks in the
preparation of writing this letter and still am having
difficulty writing it. Due to the many obstacles,
which have been laid out before us, we are going to
have to cancel the ONE Project this year. This
decision has been reached after much evaluation,
meditation and long talks with many of our community
members.
When I first learned that Madre Grande was having
difficulties and that we were going to have to find a
new venue my heart sank. I feel so deeply that this
is our space and had a difficult time visualizing our
tribe ritualizing at a different location. As the
reality sank in this feeling became comfortable and I
actually felt that this might be a good thing. We
would be able to enjoy the energy of a different
sacred space, potentially somewhere more green, and we
would learn how to be more nomadic and how to build
our village from the ground up.
It was difficult starting at ground zero, making phone
calls to strangers and explaining to them who we are
and asking them if they would be open to our group.
Everything always goes well in this conversation until
I get to the “suspension” part in which the energy
generally shifts and it becomes…quiet. Still, this
was a significant exercise for me as I believe deeply
in what we do and I understand that our practices are
a bit foreign to most. The problem lies more in the
accessibility of the land that is available to us.
All of the local places that I found that were open to
us are without amenities, which bring us to even more
of a beginning, than we may have time or resources
for.
I began to make calls to people within the community
who have been a large part of the project and to
explain to them the difficulties that I was having.
To my surprise many of these vital people told me that
they would be unable to attend this year due to life’s
dealings but lent me a helpful ear and words of
encouragement. I continued to push for the event and
continued to be met by more obstacles, so many that I
finally snapped out of my usual forward movement and
stepped outside of myself for a moment. Maybe there
was something to this, maybe the universe was trying
to tell me something, and maybe it was time to give
the project, our community and myself a rest.
Shortly after this I received a phone call from my
dear friend Tomma (aka clip board) who told me that
her baby (aka ONE tribe baby) was going to be due the
same week as the ONE project, and of course on the
full moon. This was actually what sealed the deal for
me. Tomma had told me when she became pregnant that
she would like to have me there when she delivered her
child. This to me is an amazing honor and one that I
feel I would regret missing for the rest of my life.
And so the decision was made. I would be giving back
to the community in a different way this year, in a
way that will affect all of our futures. I will be
assisting in the bringing in of a new warrior into our
community, potentially one of the ones who will carry
on the legacy of our tribe.
I hope that all of you use this time in a way that you
feel to be as important to you and to the planet. I
hope that you are able to birth some type of warrior
energy within yourselves or within someone else. Do
not feel that the top of our mountain is the only
place that we can effect change within our universe
and ourselves or that we require going through these
rituals to find our center again. It is all within us.
Use this time to learn to pull it out of yourself so
that you may reflect it to others. Let us regroup next
year stronger, more knowledgeable and with a bigger
piece of ourselves to share with each other.
I have heard many of us speaking about using this
summer to continue the flow with camping trips,
ceremony and intentional gatherings. If anyone has
anything going on that they would like to invite the
rest of the tribe to please send me the information
and I would be happy to forward it to the rest of the
community. I know that a lot of people are planning
on going to Burning Man. If time allots after the
birth of Tomma and Kevin’s daughter you will also find
me there.
If any one is interested in working on organizing a
camp let me know so I can connect everyone who is
attending. For those of you who have not had the
honor of attending this life-changing event I can
safely say that you will get out of it exactly what
you desire. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants
to learn more about community and humanity.
Please contact me if you need anything, have any ideas
for this summer or just want to chat. I would love to
hear from you. It is not looking as though we will
have Madre Grande next year either so let us hold
space for a beautiful new venue. May you all enjoy
your summer.
Namaste.
