So I know it’s the middle of Winter and everything, but it’s never too early in your calendars to start thinking about camping tips for next summers festivals:

  • Ticket – You’d be surprised how many forget these.
  • Money – Take a fair bit, but don’t let it out of your sight. Cash machines on site usually take a huge commission
  • Painkillers. Imagine the worst holiday hangover plus a bad night sleep, plus some loud music. Bring these or you’ll be in all kinds of pain
  • Sun Cream -  No-one likes to be the beetroot colored guy in all the photos. it can gt really sore with all the jumping around and suspicious liquids flying around as well.
  • There are a hundred reasons you shouldn’t forget your own bog roll.. Non of which need explaining. Ever.
  • Mostly just for finding that illusive can of lager in your tent.
  • Wet Wipes – In the absence of showering, wet wipes are the next best thing.
  • Sunglasses
  • Stove and pan
  • Water container.. we’re talking a 2 liter bottle. You can use it for washing and drinking.
  • If you don’t smoke, take a lighter, if you do, take enough cigarettes to last you, and a lighter and a pipe (if you need it!).. No-one likes the guy that goes around the place asking for a cigarette or lighter. Don’t be that guy.

An amazing fact for you here that i am gobsmacked about……… Pulp Formed in 1978!!!!!! That’s not what the story is about but its the highlight of the story for me so i thought i would start with it!

The real story here is about pulp re forming for Glastonbury 2010. I didn’t really realise they split up but i quite liked pulp, well disco 2000 anyway and recently Jarvis was misinterpreted by the media as saying he wanted Pulp to play at Glastonbury 2010. He actually said that he would like to play Glastonbury 2010 and it was presumed he meant with Pulp. This got Jarvis thinking about a reunion which looks like it could be on the cards.

I would really like it to happen but in the world of entertainment things like this get banded around all day long. Lets wait, see and hope.

For the last two years there has been an outdoor area of Glastonbury called Arcadia. In 2010 this space is set to get bigger. Michael Eavis has rewarded the success of this area with an extra 15 acres of land so it can expand for the 2010 festival. Eavis was quoted as saying

"We’re giving over an extra 15 acres to Arcadia next year because the feedback we got on that area was fantastic. It doesn’t feel like 40 years. We’ve had some bad years along the way, but mostly it’s been great fun. Next year is special though and we’re working hard to make sure we get the best acts to make it the best festival yet."

In 2010 Glastonbury will be 40 years old. The first music event was held in 1970 with the headliners being a band that later became known as T.Rex. The year after David Bowie played the festival organised partly by the daughter of Winston Churchill; Arabella Churchill. Why am i telling you this? well David Bowie is till alive! he could very well be performing at the festival to celebrate the 40 years.

Michael Eavis has recently been quoted as saying the plans for the 40th anniversary year are in advanced stages, though he is keeping very tight lipped about what the plans are. One thing they have announced is that arcadia will have an extra 15 Acers of the site because of its popularity last year and the site itself will be very different this year.

There are many rumours started a long time ago on this one and David Bowie has already been mentioned. I think he would be a fitting act to play instead of a pop band or someone else that just wants the limelight. U2 and the rolling stones have also been linked to play the festival but i think it should be a celebration of the last 40 years or music that has come out of the festival.

One of the funniest comment I’ve heard for a while has come out of Robbie Williams recently. He has claimed that Oasis have took a 15 year lap of honour and Noel and Liam are better off apart!

Robbie has said

"Originally I thought they’d inevitably get back together because they are the band. But reading between the lines, they’re both really stubborn so I don’t think they will. To be honest, I know there’s history between us and this isn’t very complimentary, but they’ve been doing a lap of honour for the past 13 years. There’s been the occasional gem here and there, The Importance Of Being Idle, and, well, that’s about it."

There has been no love lost between Robbie and Oasis and i would love to hear what Noel would say in response to this! Robbie hasn’t exactly been wowing 1000’s in the last few years and after his appearance on X Factor recently it seems he needs something to take away the nerves now he is getting back in the public eye!

Creamfields Buenos Aires 2009 has been rescheduled for December 19.The reason behind this is because the government control agency decided that the company organising the event hadn’t satisfied all the conditions in time.

The mains sticking point annoyingly was all down to paperwork that needed to be presented for the festival to go ahead. The paperwork was never submit so the festival was cancelled. The organisers have rescheduled for December 19th but the venue which was going to be the GEBA stadium has still to be confirmed.

Some of the artists for this event were set to be Richie Hawtin, David Guetta and Armin Van Buuren. Cancelling and re organising the event could mean that Dj’s become unavailable due to other commitments as many Dj’s are booked up months and months in advance.

Every year in the lead up to the line-up for Glastonbury being announced; the ‘who will play’ rumour mill goes into full swing. Every act under the sun will be associated with the festival and the older and more obscure the act the more people want it to be true.

Last year had a host of people wanting to play the festival including Take That! It has become something of a need to play ay Glastonbury since Jay-Z played. More and more artists and bands are now thinking of the publicity it will bring them instead of really wanting to add tom the Glastonbury experience.

Saying that the first major rumour of the year would be quite a good one to become reality. Ronnie Wood of the rolling stones has been supporting rumour that the Rolling Stones will be playing Glastonbury next year. At a recent awards ceremony Ronni spoke of how the band was getting along and said there would be a chance of some gigs in 2010.

Ill keep my eyes peeled!

The first ever Creamfields Abu Dhabi is set to take place on the 11th December 2009. The festival will take place at the Emirates Palace and will consist of a main stage and some arenas. This is the first time Creamfields have landed in the Middle East. I must admit it is a bit of a surprise for me. I wouldn’t really associate dance music with the far east which is quite short sighted of me as Trance music is very big in Israel and has been for a long time, Goa Psy trance is a music genre all of its own.

Never the less, they have a great line-up of talent on show with more acts to be confirmed.

Underworld
Calvin Harris (live)
Erick Morillo
Sasha
Deadmau5
Marco Carola
Laidback Luke
Sebastien Leger

Apart from the major players who are probably already planning their 2020 festivals there are some of the small players that are still busy making plans. Guilfest is a festival that takes place 16th, 17th & 18th of July in the grounds of Stoke Park, Guildford. Guilfest has been operating for the last 18 years which makes it one of the longest running festivals in the UK. The festival is a mixture of live music, street theatre and children’s entertainment.

The festival is made up of 6 arenas which includes 2 main stages, a dance tent, a rock tent and an acoustic stage. Past acts include people like X-Press 2, the Plumb Dj’s and the scratch perverts. The Main Stage has had a truly broad array of acts ranging from Katie Melua, UB40 to Pink Floyd to Kosheen.
